Makin' Style in the Caribbean: Shurnel Oliviere

A bit about Trinidadian fashion designer, Shurnel Oliviere of SHURNEL Designs in his own words:

"As a child, I was always interested in drawing. During my teenage years I developed a special interest in apparel designs. Having come from a family of tailors and seamstresses I was encouraged to pursue this love for Fashion at a very young age. I purchased texts and used whatever resources there were available to gain the necessary knowledge in learning the arts fashion design and garment construction."

"In our 2009 Collection, we fused a lot of colors appealing to a trendy clientele, while simultaneously being practical, able to be worn from day to evening; placing emphasis on style and Fit; celebrating woman in her youth, power and diversity. Giving her ways to express and explore herself through what she wears by setting the trends and going that extra step to make a statement."

For those of you in Trinidad, Shurnel will be showing his designs at a tea party and fashion show hosted by Cipriani Labour College's Alumni Association on July 11. He says he also plans to show at the Islands of the World Fashion Week carded for November in the Bahamas.
