I miss Lauryn Hill..

"Don't be a hard rock when you really are a gem"

Do you remember a time not too long ago when a woman with free-form locs, chocolate brown skin and actual talent was the world's biggest superstar? I do and I miss those days.

Lauryn, music needs you. Who else is going to tell these young girls to stop "showing off your ass cuz you thinkin' it's a trend" (Girlfriend..let me break it down to you again - you know that was your jam circa 1999!!)

I know you've been through some personal and professional problems but wouldn't all of that channel well into an album? I know you haven't been in the limelight for a while but even Sade is making new music now.

I'm tired of all these Beyonce/ RiRi clones getting record deals now. Do you know there's a young girl, Kiely Williams ( a foetus really) who's made song about how cool it was to have sex with a stranger while drunk and not really remembering the details other than the sex being good! To me, the song paints the classic picture of a drug -rape. (True story, check out the song- if we can even call it that- here) The song is so sleazy you feel like cleansing your ears with holy water after listening.

We need a woman who made it seem cool to be spiritually and politically aware. Someone who made music with a message that you could groove. Hell, someone who actually made real music.

Ok, I'll get off my soap-box now but do you guys feel like I do? Do you even like Lauryn Hill and her music. Let me know in the comments.

Beauty: Inna Modja

I've just recently gotten acquainted with the music of Malian Inna Modja. But I'm sold on her quirky, cute, girly look. And of course I love her luscious fro.

I'm My Own Worst Critic..

I recently made these pieces for a client, she wanted jewelry with deep purple elements. I really liked them when I made them but now that I'm looking at them I feel like I could have been more creative.

Have you ever felt that way after you've made something/ painted something/ wrote something/ put together an outfit: Could I have done more?

Sigh

Tatyana Makes Art for Haiti

This gripping image was recently painted by our latest art profile-ee Tatyana Fazlalizadeh. She selling prints of it here.

"All profit from the sale will be donated to the Haiti relief effort, particularly Partners in Health, and Yele Haiti." says Tatyana on her blog.

myDesign : The Painted Maze

After a brief hiatus (See why here) I'm back to painting on tee-shirts, denim, paper, whatever I can find.

This one is called The Painted Maze. It's meant to represent the various directions life can take and the roadblocks you can face.

Yep, it's hand painted. It looks that way doesn't it?
